Driving in Girona: What are the rules?
Driving in Girona is generally easy and pleasant. The roads are in good condition, and traffic flows much more smoothly than in major Spanish cities.
In the centre, however, many streets are narrow or pedestrianized, so it's best to take advantage of the parking areas just outside the Barri Vell (Old Town) and continue your visit on foot. Even in the more central areas, there are metered parking spaces, while in the outskirts, free parking is generally easier to find.
During the summer, traffic tends to increase, especially along the roads connecting Girona to the Costa Brava, especially on weekends and during the middle of the day.
Speed limits follow standard Spanish regulations: 50 km/h in urban centres and up to 90 km/h on interurban roads.
