Driving in Paris: What are the rules?
Driving in Paris isn't complicated, but it's helpful to know some information before getting behind the wheel. Traffic can be heavy, especially in the central areas, but with a little caution, you can get around easily.
For those arriving from Italy or another European country, an international driving license is not required.
On-street parking is generally paid: rates are higher in the central arrondissements (about €6 per hour) and slightly lower in the outskirts (around €4). There are also numerous public garages, both outdoor and underground.
Parking is free overnight, from 8:00 PM to 9:00 AM, and often also on Sundays and holidays. However, remember that you cannot leave your car in the same spot for more than six hours.
